Celebrate our local community
Share the long, lazy days of January with great music and food to connect with your community. Yarra Plenty Regional Library in support from Nillumbik and Banyule City Council invites you to get cooking with livestreamed events, workshops and cooking challenges to upload and share. Make the snazziest salad or be inspired with some great BBQ ideas.
For the musically minded, get the band back together or go solo and upload your clip to social media with #HomegrownYPRL. There are some great prizes on offer including some half day sessions in recording studios. We want our community to reconnect and share over local homegrown food and music. Join us for Homegrown Summer.
- Musical renditions from Joel Quinn.
- Edendale produce with “Plate of Origin” stars Ash & Kelly.
- Weekly cooking challenges.
- Family Terracotta Potting and Cress Heads.

Free Seed Packets Available!
As a part of Homegrown Summer and our Summer Reading Families (SRF) program, you can collect a free seed packet of Sweet Basil or Lettuce when you sign up for SRF for you to plant yourself.
In this video, Doug from Watsonia Library will show you how to plant your seedlings with this environmentally friendly planter pot that you can create yourself.
All you need is: a plastic cup; newspaper; a stapler. With that, and these easy to follow instructions, you're all ready to get started!
