Digital literacy for lifelong learning
YPRL offers learning and technology resources with activities to challenge and empower our members in the areas of science, technology, engineering and maths.
At YPRL we are dedicated in helping everyone raise their level of digital literacy and lifelong learning. Been gifted a new device? Want to learn how to use that app everyone’s on? Come along to Tech Help, our one-on-one or group sessions conducted by skilled volunteers and staff who have been trained in digital mentorship. Learn new skills in a supportive environment, where we empower you by teaching the skills required to become more confident in the use of digital technology.
YPRL’s eLearning resources are available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. LinkedIn Learning is a great way to learn a new skill. You can choose from thousands of online courses to learn in-demand skills from real-world industry experts. Courses cover a variety of topics including business, design, web development and multimedia skills. Courses geared to specific software are also available and include Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and open source applications. Our eLearning resources can help users pursue both personal and professional goals in their own time.
Building confidence and awareness around digital skills is important from an early age. YPRL offer various Tinker Time events for younger people including;
- Code Club, which is all about learning how to create games, animations and interactive stories with Scratch, a visual programming language for beginners.
- Science Club at YPRL aims to challenge kids by creating fun and interactive scientific challenges to encourage investigation and creative thinking.
- STEAM Club sessions are offered throughout the year and focus on different areas within science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. They are regularly linked to YPRL’s Maker Spaces and are a great way to explore new concepts and develop skills in a fun environment.
Our digital collection of eResources is easy to navigate, having been split into six main categories including: Read, Watch, Listen, Learn, Play and Research. There are many resources available on the YPRL catalogue in subjects about learning to use technology in everyday settings. YPRL encourage users to interact online with all our library services and if you require any help, you can get in touch with us via our website, mobile app, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
