Your Recipe: Your Story

Food plays an important role in cultures and societies from around the world. We express love for family and friends by creating special dishes which not only provides sustenance but connects us to our roots. Recipes have been passed down through the generations and reflect our identities and remind us of home.

During Cultural Diversity Month, we invite patrons to share their favourite recipes and the stories behind them. Visit Mill Park Library and collect a form to write your recipe and some information about the origins of the dish as well as special memories associated with it. You may remain anonymous if you wish.

We look forward to sharing your recipes with our library community!

Tandoori home cooking : over 70 classic Indian tandoori recipes to cook at home

by Maunika Gowardhan

Cooking in a tandoor (clay oven) is a technique that dates back to the Bronze Age, and traditionally has always been about bringing the flavour from the clay oven to the vegetables, meats and fresh breads cooked in it. Communal kitchens have centred around the tandoor for generations across the northern frontier of India, making their way through the Indian subcontinent, and always providing warmth, good food and flavour. In Tandoori Home Cooking, Maunika Gowardhan, bestselling author of Thali, takes you on a tour to share an explosion of tandoori flavours, spices, recipes and culinary heritage found across the streets and restaurants of India, with dishes that can be made in conventional ovens and grills in your home all year round.
