Embracing the Warmth of Community and Culture

Winter is a season that often calls for coziness, warmth, and connection. We recognize the importance of fostering community spirit during this time and we have organised an exceptional Winter Connection program.

From cooking workshops to comedy shows, singing sessions to film festivals, and author talks to Libraries After Dark events, YPRL's Winter Connection program offers something for everyone!

Libraries After Dark: Warm up with Italian Cooking 

Join Rosa from Rosa’s Traditional Italian Cooking as she prepares fresh homemade scrumptious delights. Rosa is passionate about Italian cooking and fresh produce. You will get a chance to taste and even have a go at making some yourself. Immerse yourself in the warmth of Italian culture and delight your taste buds in this immersive culinary experience.

Bolognese Sauce for 4 people

3 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion (finely chopped)
Garlic (optional)
350g/350g beef/pork mince
750ml passata
100ml red wine
2 cans (400g ea)  of diced peeled tomatoes
1/4 cup basil (finely chopped) and 1/4 cup parsley (finely chopped)

Method:
In a large saucepan, sauté the onion in oil for 5 minutes before adding the mince, parsley and basil. 

Cook the mince for 10-15 minutes or until browned. Add the wine and let evaporate, add the passata and stir in cans of tomatoes. 

Season with salt and simmer on low heat for 1.5 hours.

Warm up with a Short Film Festival

Get cozy in the library's theatre-style setting and enjoy an evening of captivating storytelling through carefully curated local short films.

The evening will be hosted by film lovers Wombat & Goose from Channel 31's "Outta the Can". 

 

 

Warm up with Comedian James Liotta 

Laughter is indeed the best medicine, especially during winter when the days are shorter and colder. Enjoy a night of hilarious comedy with local award-winning comedian/entertainer James Liotta. James Liotta is an award-winning Australian-Italian actor, as well as a performer, comedian, TV-radio presenter and producer. James has over 25 years of experience in the entertainment business. He may even bring along a special guest on the night!

Warm up with No Waste Cooking 

In collaboration with Open Table, YPRL invites participants to discover the art of creating delicious meals while minimizing food waste. From utilizing leftovers creatively to incorporating sustainable ingredients, this event empowers attendees to make a positive impact on both their cooking skills and the environment.

Warm up with Winter Soups

Nothing warms the soul like a hearty bowl of soup during the chilly winter months. Join Marie from Rie's Kitchen for this workshop where you will taste, share, get some tips and recipes for making great soup. Whether you're a novice in the kitchen or a seasoned cook, this event promises to inspire and nourish!

 

 

Warm Up With Mosaic Making

Mosaic art has a long history of captivating people with its intricate designs and vibrant colours. This event invites participants of all skill levels and ages to explore the art of mosaic making and create their own unique piece!

 

Warm Up With an Author Talk: Kate Solly

August at Eltham Library, 7.00pm—8.00pm

Join us by the fire as Kate Solly, local author of Tuesday Evenings with the Copeton Craft Resistance, takes us into the world of a motley crochet collective where yarnbombing becomes the way to combat bigotry in their community. Described as joyous, warm and charming, this book is perfect for a fireside winter read.

Kate will talk about her inspiration for writing the book, the colourful, relatable characters, and her writing process. Books will be available for sale on the night. 

Warm Up With Singing

Are you looking for a relaxed and friendly environment to share your love of music and meet others? Local singing teacher Abby will share her expertise and love of singing to guide the group. With the emphasis on fun, our community singing group is suited to all ages and abilities. Whether you're a seasoned vocalist or just love to sing in the shower, this event invites participants to join a friendly choir and harmonize with others.  

Whether you're looking to expand your culinary skills, engage with talented artists, or simply connect with like-minded individuals, YPRL's Winter Connection program provides the perfect opportunity to warm up, both physically and emotionally, during the colder months.
