Over the next seven weeks, we will be sharing videos twice a week on our Facebook page showcasing how you can stay fit, strong, and mobile while at home.  Each session has been designed by physiotherapist and fitness instructor Lisa Westlake in partnership with COTA Australia and Victoria Together.

Over 30 minutes, each video covers a range of strengthening exercises from yoga to cardio to Pilates.

As we age, maintaining physical activity has many benefits. It can help to prevent disease, including heart disease and diabetes, improve our mental health, reduce risk of falls, increase social engagement, and improve our cognitive function. These Living Stronger videos offer some gentle options that you can engage in the comfort of your own home, with no special equipment needed.

There are lots of ways to stay active – do you walk, jog, play tennis, swim, tai chi, or something else entirely? Taking up a new activity with a friend is a great way to stick to a new habit.

At the library, we have a number of resources that you can access online to help with fitness and movement.

Libby by Overdrive: Libby not only contains eBooks and eAudio books, but now houses a large collection of digital magazines. With in this online resource, you will find magazines such as 10 Minute Pilates and 10 minute Yoga.

Kanopy: Within our movie streaming app, you can access Great Courses, a free learning platform. Here you will find courses such as mindfulness and Taiichi for beginners.

Borrow Box: listen to one of our many non-fiction audio books as you discover new techniques such as relaxation and mindfulness with Smiling Mind: Mindfulness made easy.
