YPRL provides an Outreach Services van that visits over 50 nursing homes, retirement villages, and assisted living accommodation facilities on a regular 4-week cycle.

WHAT IS IT: The Outreach Library Vehicle is a mobile library service that visits aged care and supported accommodation facilities on a set route, bringing library items and services onsite allowing residents to browse and borrow.
INTERESTED? Enquiries and service arrangements are managed through the facility, and a nominated facility contact person who is invited to complete the Facility Enquiry Form. YPRL will review your enquiry and contact the nominated facility representative.

What days and times does it operate?
The service operates Tuesday to Friday, 9.00am–4.00pm
What happens during a visit?
Residents can browse a selection, collect reservations and borrow and return items during the scheduled visit, supported by YPRL staff.
Do residents borrow on their own library cards?
Yes. Residents borrow items using their own YPRL membership cards. Our team can also assist with membership sign-ups at your facility.
What items are available to borrow?
The van carries items such as large print books, audiobooks, DVDs and magazines (as available).
Is Click & Collect available?
Yes. Click & Collect is available. Residents can reserve items online or request specific items through the staff member and collect them during an upcoming visit.
Is this the same as Home Library Service?
No. Home Library Service is for individuals and carers who need home delivery. The Outreach Library Vehicle is a facility-based service delivered onsite to participating organisations.
Can individuals request the Outreach Library Vehicle to visit?
No. Requests should be made by the facility/organisation. Residents and families can speak with facility staff about contacting YPRL regarding the service.
What if a resident lives in a facility and is room/bed-bound, what should they do?
They may be eligible for Home Library Service, depending on individual circumstances. The preferred pathway is to submit a Home Library Service enquiry.
How does a facility enquire about starting the service?
The facility should complete the facility enquiry form. YPRL will review the enquiry and contact the nominated facility representative. Please Note: YPRL is not accepting new applications currently.
If completing the online form is difficult, what should a facility do?
YPRL advises calling 9408 7888 or ask in-branch for assistance to submit an enquiry.
