Due to the COVID-19 restrictions currently in place, YPRL branches will only open for contactless Click & Collect services until restrictions ease.
Branches are open a little later than normal on Monday – Friday, at 9.30am, and close a little later, at 7.00pm, Monday – Thursday (with Whittlesea and Diamond Valley close earlier on some days).
Unfortunately the Outreach Vehicle will not be operating throughout the lockdown.
The Mobile Library has encountered an issue and will be off the road until we're able to resolve it. We will be servicing the Mobile Library stops with our Outreach Vehicle until the Mobile Library is repaired.
Our 24/7 return chutes remain open, all item due dates have been extended until after restrictions end, and users may continue to place holds on the collection.
Home Library & Outreach Services
YPRL provides an Outreach Services vehicle that visits nursing homes, retirement villages, and assisted living accommodation facilities on a regular 3-week cycle.
This service is designed for ambulatory people who are not able to visit their local library branch, but who would still like to enjoy the sociability of choosing their own library materials, and meeting staff and other borrowers. A range of large print books, DVDs, CDs and audiobooks are available to access. The vehicle is equipped with steps and a wheelchair lift that can also assist people with walking frames.
The service operates Tuesdays to Fridays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. For information about the Outreach service, including times and locations, please call us on 0418 107 724.
Home Library Service
The YPRL Home Library Service is a free and convenient way for housebound residents and their carers to borrow library materials.
If you or anyone you know may benefit from this service, please contact us on (03) 9408 7888, email email@example.com for more information, or complete our request form.
Home Library Service
Who is eligible?
This service is available to members (and their carers) who are unable to access the library due to ill health, disability, or age-related health issues.
How does it work?
Once your borrowing preferences are ascertained, you will be matched up with a suitable volunteer who will deliver library materials to you on a monthly basis.
What items are available?
Large and small print books, CDs, DVDs, and magazines are all available for loan. If you have difficulties with print, then audiobooks can be arranged, with a player if required. Within our collection we have 18 different community languages, as well as subtitled videos and audiobooks. Downloadable material is also available.
What if I haven’t finished with my items?
You are able to renew any unfinished items twice, provided others have not placed a hold on them.
What if I live in a retirement village, nursing home, or institution?
We also offer a speciality vehicle that visits and provides library services to retirement villages, nursing homes, and institutions. Call us to find out if the outreach vehicle visits your place of residence already, or let us know where you are and we can look into what is possible.
