Services and Programs

Ask A Librarian

Our library staff are here to help. Need a book recommendation, forgotten your YPRL password, confused about how to stream films, or need info about local services? Ask us!

Each weekday from 10am - 12pm on Twitter and 10am - 4pm on Facebook one of our librarians will be ready and waiting to take your questions. Learn more.

Activity Guides

Everything you need to stay active, keep learning and have fun at home:

Book Valet

Book Valet is a free service where our librarians curate you a personalised reading (or watching!) list.

All you need to do is fill in a short survey about your book and/or film tastes and we'll get to work! Access Book Valet.

Caring calls

Libraries are a place of refuge for many vulnerable and elderly community members, and we know many people will be missing their regular contact with our librarians and other members of the community.

While our branches are closed, our librarians are calling all YPRL members aged 70 or over (that's over 5,500 people!) to have a chat, connect them with essential services and offer any technical assistance that they might need.

Family and Local History Help

Is it time to look back at your family tree, or find out more about your local area? Our team of genealogy and local history specialists will be on hand to help. Request Family and Local History Help.

Homework Help & Pet Tales

As many kids start Term 2 schooling from home our teacher-librarians will be available for one-on-one homework help sessions to assist in their transition to at-home-learning. Learn more about Homework Help.

We also have eager dogs, cats and birds ready for your child to practice reading with. Book a 10 minute reading aloud session in Pet Tales.

Let Me Research That

Social distancing doesn’t mean you have to be unproductive! Our librarians are still on hand to assist you with your research or help you find the information you are looking for. Submit a research request.

Print & Post

If you have any essential paperwork that you need printed, email it to ypmail@yprl.vic.gov.au along with your address and we’ll print & post it to you free of charge. Learn more.

Tech Helpline

Got a device you can't seem to get working or an app that won't do what it's supposed to? Got a question about online services or need help navigating the web? YPRL's technical wizards and digital mentors are available to work through the problem with you in real time.

Call Tech Help on 03 9408 7888, leave a voicemail and we’ll call you back to help. Find out more about the Tech Helpline.

Virtual Storytimes

We've taken our Storytimes online! Every weekday morning we're broadcasting virtual Storytimes on Facebook with the familiar faces from YPRL branches.

Join us on Facebook Monday to Friday:

  • 10.00am - Baby Storytime
  • 10.30am - Toddler Storytime
  • 11.00am - Preschool Storytime
