This summer, Mill Park Library is holding an Art exhibition

for International Day of People with Disability.

21 December 2023 – 17 January 2024

Explore Local Artists

Curated by Libby McKinnon, much of this work was made by artists who participate in programs run by Greenbrook Community house - a local venue that provides an inclusive, accessible, and welcoming social environment to all community members.

This Short Summer Art Exhibition presents a selection of works by artists of different abilities who recently exhibited in the City of Whittlesea Annual Art Exhibition.

These artists have been practicing their skills and working with mosaic, acrylic on canvas and other techniques. Each work is made with a passion and strong daily practice, as the artist use the work to help communicate their stories, emotions, and active imaginations.

Many artists with work on show here have participated in mosaic art programs at Greenbrook Community House over the past 15 years. Other visual artists with work in this Short Summer Art Exhibition also live with different abilities and come from across the municipality.

How is this connected to IDPwD?

The art exhibition helps garner support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of people with disabilities. It is about raising awareness that being inclusive means everyone can take part, and that everyone belongs in our community. Greenbrook Community House offers a range of creative programs that encourage personal development, self - esteem and artistic expression, including programs that focus on engaging people with a disability, and their carers.

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is a United Nations Day observed internationally and held on December 3rd each year. It is a day to celebrate, recognize, and value the diversity of our community, regardless of our abilities, and an opportunity to understand and learn from the experiences of people with living with a disability.

Yarra Plenty Regional Library (YPRL) is a place where everyone is welcome. We encourage our diverse communities to come together to meet, learn, create, work, and live well.

We are committed to providing equal access to our welcoming, safe spaces, and to our collections and technology. Yarra Plenty prides ourselves for all the accessibility within our collection and we are regularly expanding it with new additions such as Braille and Dyslexic friendly books!

Head over to Mill Park to explore this wonderful exhibition - open until the 17 January!
