Events to make your Book Week sing!
Book Week is nearly upon us!
Saturday 22 August to Friday 28 August 2026!
At YPRL, we’re very excited for the best bookish time of year. The theme for this year is A Symphony of Stories and we have a symphony of events to get you in the Book Week spirit.
The Sound of Stories creative workshop for children aged 8-14 years. Listen to different pieces of music and use your imagination to create a drawing or a piece of writing based on what you hear. At Lalor Library.
Mini Maker Studio: Costume Making encourages you to use your creativity and make a costume out of cardboard - perfect for Book Week or imaginative play! At Ivanhoe Library.
Themed storytimes:
If you’ve got a younger child who is jealous their older sibling gets to dress up at school for Book Week, our costumed storytimes are a great option. The sessions will feature songs, rhymes, and stories as well as a mini costume parade and craft activities. Children and parents are encouraged to dress up as their favourite characters.
Author events:
Join CBCA Award recognised author Anna McGregor at Eltham Library for the launch of her new picture book, Dear Humans, We Stole Your Crayon. Hear Anna speak about creating the book, along with a reading and a craft activity.
This event is free, but bookings are required. Copies of the book will be available for purchase on the day.
Enjoy a special storytime with author Amy Freund at Murnong Library! Amy is a picture book author whose new book, Amigo the Capybara follows an outgoing capybara who learns about empathy and understanding. Amy will read Amigo the Capybara, followed by time for questions, craft, and book signings.
Join us at Rosanna Library for a special Book Week Storytime with illustrator Emma Sjaan Beukers as our guest storyteller, sharing her beautiful book George and the Wizard.
Written by beloved TV personality Tony Armstrong and illustrated by Emma Sjaan Beukers, this uplifting story celebrates friendship, courage and the joy of being your true self.
Join us for a morning of magical storytelling and imagination.

Throughout Book Week, Eltham Library will also have a Book Week themed scavenger hunt throughout the branch. Track down all the posters for a prize!
