International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is a United Nations Day observed internationally and held on December 3rd each year. It is a day to celebrate, recognize, and value the diversity of our community, regardless of our abilities, and an opportunity to understand and learn from the experiences of people with living with a disability.
It is also a day of action, when people and organizations mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of people with disabilities. It is about raising awareness that being inclusive means everyone can take part, and that everyone belongs in our community.
Yarra Plenty Regional Library (YPRL) is a place where everyone is welcome. We encourage our diverse communities to come together to meet, learn, create, work, and live well. We are committed to providing equal access to our welcoming, safe spaces, and to our collections and technology.
We will be running special events during the week of IDPwD, to which all our community are welcome. Check out our blog for the events running!

Our branches are accessible but please call in advance if you would like to check particular requirements for the branch you wish to visit!
Our branches have accessible items to borrow such as Large Print Adult Fiction, dyslexia-friendly Junior Fiction, Braille Picture Books, and VOX talking picture books, along with a large collection of audio books available in CD or MP3 format.
YPRL also has a huge online collection, and you can join from home without even visiting us! The online collection has accessibility features built in. We have eAudio and eBooks available via the Libby and BorrowBox apps. eBooks allow you to choose your font (including dyslexic-friendly), to zoom in, and to alter brightness and page layout, and have voice commands or keyboard shortcuts. You can use a screen reader with eBooks. The speed of narration of audio books can be adjusted to suit you.
Our free streaming service, Kanopy has accessibility features including keyboard navigation and voice controls, and the films have closed captions, or you can watch a transcript of the film as it plays.
