Refurbishment Announcement: Eltham Library to Temporarily Close for Upgrades

20 April, 2023

Changes are coming to Eltham Library! The library will be undergoing a minor refurbishment, and as a result, it will be temporarily closed on Friday 5 May for the initial stages, and then again from Monday 5 June, with plans to reopen on Monday 3 July (Eltham Library Community Gallery will also be closed during these periods).

Prior to the longer closure period, there will be ongoing minor works in the library, which may impact some services temporarily. However, other branches and services of the Yarra Plenty Regional Library will remain open to cater to all your library needs. You can still visit Diamond Valley Library, Whittlesea Library, Hurstbridge Hub Click & Collect, or utilise the Mobile Library,  service to borrow books, access resources, and use our services.

During the closure, our eLibrary will also continue to provide access to information and resources. With a diverse range of eResources, including eBooks, eAudio, and eMags our eLibrary provides access to nearly anything you'd like. So, there is no better time to explore all that it has to offer!

What can you expect when Eltham Library reopens on Monday 3 July 2023? The library will boast an updated floorplan that includes an expanded young person's area, providing a dedicated space for young readers and learners to explore, discover, and engage with books and other resources.

In addition, the staff service desks will be consolidated into a single service point, ensuring a more streamlined and efficient service experience for library visitors. The existing colour palette will also be refreshed with bright pops of colour strategically placed throughout the library, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

One of the highlights of the refurbishment is the increase in shelving to accommodate the library's book collection, particularly in the junior and young adult areas. This means more books will be accessible for browsing and borrowing, providing a wider selection for library users of all ages.

For those who need to study or work, the library will feature an increase in power and charging outlets in the new study booths and reading seats, ensuring that you can plug in and stay connected while enjoying the library's resources and amenities. There will also be a reduction in the number of public computer stations, allowing for a more spacious and comfortable environment for studying, reading, and researching.

If you're looking for a quiet place to study, the mezzanine quiet study area will be equipped with an increase in the number of powered study booths, from five to sixteen, all acoustically treated for noise control. This will provide ample options for library users seeking a peaceful and conducive space for focused work or study.

The Eltham Library's refurbishment will enhance the library experience for the community. The upgrades will provide improved facilities, increased resources, and a refreshed environment for everyone to enjoy. We know that the temporary closure may cause some inconvenience, but we appreciate your patience and look forward to seeing you once library reopens with a new and improved look, layout, and amenities.

So, get ready to be wowed by the transformed Eltham Library when it reopens on Monday 3 July 2023. In the meantime, you can still visit the other branches and services of Yarra Plenty Regional Library to satisfy all your library needs. Stay tuned for updates on the progress of the refurbishment and get ready to explore the upgraded Eltham Library soon!
