We have you covered this holiday season!

Get creative with one of several craft making sessions, using traditional methods at some branches or new technology in our Maker Spaces. Learn how to decorate Gingerbread Houses with the Victorian Cake Decorators Association or come and see Santa at Special Storytimes, join a sing-along and get ready for the holiday season by learning basic car maintenance and make the most of your smartphone when connecting with loved ones. And don’t forget the Community Christmas celebration at Watsonia Library!

Thursday 1 December:

  • Festive Songs from Around the World: 3.45pm–4.45pm at Lalor Library - Join the U3A Choir as they begin our Christmas celebrations with cultural festive songs from around the world.   Come and sing along to old favourites as well as some festive songs in other languages.  Great fun for all ages
  • Maker Space Workshop: Christmas Cards & Gift Tags: 6.00pm-7.30pm at Ivanhoe Library - We'll be using the Maker Space vinyl cutter to easily cut out shapes, make vinyl stickers and draw with fancy glitter pens! 
  • Libraries After Dark: Basic Car Maintenance for the Holiday Season: 6.30pm–8.30pm at Mill Park Library - Thinking of taking your car on a driving holiday this Summer? Come along to this workshop and learn some tips on how to maintain your car and prepare it for the road ahead. Presented by Rich the mechanic. Bookings required.
  • Libraries After Dark: Using Your Smartphone to Virtually Connect with Your Loved Ones: 6.30pm–8.30pm at Mill Park Library - Looking for a better way of connecting with your distant loved ones this Christmas? Why not use your phone and connect with them visually? Come along to this session, bring along your smart phone and get some great tips. Bookings required.
  • Libraries After Dark: Community Christmas Celebration: 7.00pm–8.30pm at Watsonia Library - Christmas carols, festive foods and a sharing of Christmas poetry. We will also be reading Christmas writing, so please bring your favourite piece of poetry or prose, or bring your own writing to read aloud.

Tuesday 6 December:

  • Festive Fun with the Greenbrook Singers and Those Epping Ukes': 1.30pm–2.30pm Lalor Library - Enjoy some of your favourite carols and songs with the fun of ukulele music from Greenbrook Singers and Those Epping Ukes' as we get into the spirit of Christmas. Stay for a cuppa and festive treat after the performance.
  • Gingerbread House Decorating: 1.00pm-3.00pm at Mill Park Library - Come along to this hands-on workshop and decorate your own gingerbread house. Presented by the Victorian Cake Decorators Association. Bookings required. 
  • Christmas Online Shopping: 2.00pm–3.00pm Mill Park Library - Want to avoid the shops this Christmas? Come learn how to order presents and gifts online.

Wednesday 7 December:

  • Santa and his Hot Wheels: 10.30am–12.00pm Rosanna Library - Following our Storytime at 10.30am, Santa will arrive on his motorbike to read a story to the children. Photo opportunities available and a Christmas craft to take home.
  • Resume Tips and Tricks: Get Job-Ready for the Holiday Season: 11.00am–12.00pm Mill Park Library - Job-hunting for the holiday season? Come along to this session and get great ideas on improving your resume to get that Summer job. Presented by Sylvia Lucas of Max Employment and Jobs Victoria. Bookings required.

Thursday 8 December:

  • Edible Christmas treats: 11.00am–12.30pm Diamond Valley Library - Learn to make Christmas treats with Marie from "Rie's Kitchen" in this fun workshop. Marie will demonstrate a few different recipes that you can prepare at home for Christmas day, or as a gift for someone special.

Saturday 10 December:

  • Christmas Craft – Christmas Gnome: 2.00pm–3.30pm Eltham Library - Join local crafter Melissa Hughes and make a Christmas gnome for your tree. This family activity involves a small amount of sewing and there will be a simpler craft for young children. All materials supplied.

Monday 12 December:

  • Christmas Family Fun Craft: 4.00pm–5.00pm Rosanna Library - Making Christmas cards and a reindeer ornament with Leesa our fabulous volunteer at Rosanna Library. Families are encouraged to work together create some Christmas memories. 
  • Toddler Storytime and Santa Visit: 10.30am–12.00pm at Eltham Library 

Tuesday 13 December:

  • Christmas tree decoration workshop using 3D printers: 3.30pm–4.30pm Lalor Library - Make Christmas tree decorations using our 3D printer in this fun hands-on session. We will show you how to download different designs and have them printed through the 3D printer. There will be plenty of other craft materials including foam balls and sequins to make beautiful Christmas baubles.

Wednesday 14 December:

  • Christmas Crafts and Ideas for Adults: 1.30pm–3.00pm Lalor Library - There is still time to create last minute Christmas gifts and themed items for the kids and friends at this adult Christmas craft session. This is an adult only session and bookings are essential. 
  • Intergenerational Christmas Card Making Workshop: 4.00pm–5.30pm Whittlesea Library - Drop into Whittlesea Library and create Christmas cards to celebrate the festive season. All ages welcome. 

Thursday 15 December:

  • Christmas Party in the Garden: 11.00am–12.00pm Diamond Valley Library - Join in the celebration of a wonderful year in our Community Garden with tunes from Laura Kate. 
  • Maker Space Workshop: Laser Cut Festive Decorations: 6.00pm–7.30pm Ivanhoe Library - Come along to this introductory laser cutting session and create and decorate your own festive season decorations. All materials provided. We will use paints, so please wear clothes that are ok to get messy.
