Pride Month: June 2023!
June is widely recognized as Pride Month, a time when people come together to celebrate and support the LGBTQIA+ community.
Yarra Plenty Regional Library is excited to join the festivities by organizing a range of events that promote understanding, inclusivity, and acceptance. With a diverse line-up of engaging activities, the library aims to create a welcoming space for everyone while highlighting the rich experiences and stories within the LGBTQIA+ community.

LGBTQIA+ Book Presentation with Will Kostakis
Tuesday 27 June, 5.00pm–6.00pm at Thomastown Library
Join acclaimed author Will Kostakis for a special presentation as he discusses his books and shares insights into the LGBTQ+ characters and themes present in his work. This event offers an opportunity to engage with an influential voice in contemporary LGBTQ+ literature and explore diverse narratives that celebrate identity and love.

Pride Weaving Workshop: Celebrating Diversity Through Art
Friday 9 & Saturday 17 June, 10.30am–11.30pm Location at Thomastown Library
Unleash your creativity and celebrate diversity through art in this Pride Weaving Workshop. Participants will learn various weaving techniques and use colourful materials to create unique artworks that represent the diversity and vibrancy of the LGBTQIA+ community. This hands-on workshop encourages self-expression and serves as a powerful reminder of the beauty that arises when different threads come together.

Pride Community Collaborative Art Project
Wednesday 14 & 21 June, 4.00pm–8.00pm at Whittlesea Library
Become a part of something larger than yourself by contributing to the Pride Community Collaborative Art Project. This interactive session invites community members of all ages and backgrounds to work together, creating a collaborative quilt that symbolizes unity, love, and acceptance. Each participant will contribute their unique artistic flair, resulting in a visually stunning representation of the library's commitment to inclusivity.

Teen Pride Chill Zone
Wednesday 14 June, 4.00pm–6.30pm at Lalor Library
Teenagers are invited to kick back, relax, and connect in the Teen Pride Chill Zone. This safe and inclusive space is designed to foster a sense of belonging for LGBTQIA+ youth. Participants can enjoy engaging activities, including face painting, badge making, Rainbow Shoelace Project beads, and so much more!

Pride Family Fun Afternoon
Monday 26 June, 2.00pm–4.00pm at Diamond Valley Library
Bring the whole family for an exciting Pride Family Fun Afternoon. This event offers a wide range of activities all centred around promoting acceptance and celebrating diversity. It's an ideal opportunity for families to spend quality time together while fostering a spirit of inclusivity and understanding.

Additionally, Rainbow Shoelace Project bead kits will be available at all Yarra Plenty Regional Library branches from June 14.
By adding the rainbow beads to your laces, you not only get to showcase your personal style but also demonstrate your support for the LGBTQIA+ community. Whether you're a teen attending the Teen Pride Chill Zone or a library visitor of any age, we encourage you to grab a Rainbow Shoelace project bead kit and join the movement.
