For generations of readers the Harry Potter series has been the gateway into reading.

Since the first Harry Potter book hit the shelves, drawings of the magical creatures cluttered fridges and bedroom walls. Children imagined themselves as the Golden Trio, slinging spells at each other and saving the world.

Of course, the library would love to introduce the new generations to the magic of reading, but what other books are there that could conjure those feelings? 

Here are ten new-er middle grade books set in magical worlds that are alternatives to Harry Potter!

The Last Fallen Star
