“The world needs to change. I’m just fine as I am.”
- Carla, The World We Can Build
The World We Can Build exhibition is a collaborative community exhibition celebrating stories, diversity and connection.
The exhibition is inspired by the book The World We Can Build by Eliza Hull and Sally Rippin, illustrated by Daniel Gray-Barnett, and takes the form of a symbolic city — with each element reflecting the rich lived experiences of our region.

The exhibition is made up of hundreds of book buildings and LEGO playgrounds, created by community organisations and members.
Community can contribute additional elements to the exhibition through drop-in sessions with Annie Rozan from LEGO Masters Australia and artist and exhibition curator, Fleassy Malay.
The exhibition will be on display at Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub from Tuesday 17 to Monday 23 March 2026.
This initiative is supported by ALIA and delivered in partnership with the Office for Social Cohesion, Department of Home Affairs and Banyule City Council.
Note: The expression of interest for book buildings has now closed. You can still contribute to the exhibition by coming along to one of our drop-in sessions.
