As the end of the Melbourne winter chills linger on, it’s easy to feel the cold creeping into your social life.

Luckily, Yarra Plenty Regional Library are offering a diverse array of programs designed to keep you warm, engaged, and connected.

From intriguing crime-themed events to cozy gatherings and skill-building workshops, there’s something for everyone to enjoy:

Dive into a fun-filled interactive mystery game with Murder in the Stacks, running at Lalor Library. Fans of crime fiction will revel in this unique opportunity to engage with their favorite genre in a fun and immersive setting, whilst meeting new people and warming up with a cozy drink and snacks. 

 

For a more laid-back vibe, Fireside Tea and Stories is a charming way to unwind with hot beverages and engaging storytelling by the fireplace. It’s the perfect event to hear stories, poetry and chat about some of your all-time favourites.  

 

Don’t miss Louise Milligan, the acclaimed journalist and author sharing insights from her latest work Pheasant’s Nest. This engaging discussion offers a chance to connect with the author and fellow book enthusiasts, making it a perfect event for those who love literary conversation.  

 

Laugh away your winter chills with hilarious performances by local comedians at Ivanhoe Library. The lineup includes Evan Hocking, Aarti Vincent and Jeremy Dooley and is sure to be a fun way to shake of those winter blues.  

 

Talking Crime with Vikki Petraitis promises an insightful exploration of true crime stories and their impact. Petraitis will discuss some of her most well-known true cases and her career in crime writing as well as what is it like to follow investigative leads and uncover information and the growing popularity of true crime podcasts.  

 

Cosy Crime with Amanda Hampson offers a bookish chat between author Amanda Hampson and journalist Robyn Doreian as they discuss Amanda'sTea Ladies mystery series. You’ll be sure to have fun at this cosy fireside chat complete with treats and warm drinks. 

 

If you’re looking to learn something new, join author and pasta maker Jaclyn Crupi to learn how to make fresh pasta at home using the right dough. Jaclyn Crupi is the author of Pasta Love, a celebration of pasta and the people who make it.

Throughout August, we're showing some highlights from our free streaming serviceKanopy.

Plus, we'll have some warm drinks and cinema snacks to complete the experience!

At Diamond Valley catch the classic film Charade a classic romance starring Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant.

Mernda will be showing The Lunchbox, a heartwarming romance film set in Mumbai.

At Watsonia you can join us to watch Tea with the Damesa candid look at the lives of some of our most beloved women film stars.

Don’t forget that Winter is also the perfect time to snuggle up with a book and make time for yourself. You can sign up to the Warm Winter Read, which is a program across Victoria to develop long-lasting reading habits in adults throughout the colder months.
