It’s one of our favourite times of the reading year! Join us for activities and fun galore to help celebrate another year of reading and literacy for children across Australia at 11:00 AM Wednesday 25 May 2022.
As part of National Simultaneous Storytime, we will be joining thousands of children in libraries, child care centres, schools, kindergartens, homes, and book stores across the country reading the wonderful picture book, Family Tree by Josh Pyke and Ronojoy Ghosh. We will also be joined by special storytime guests.
We have events and activities across all of our library branches and we would love to see you and be part of this special occasion. You can find out more about what each branch is doing on our Events page.
About the book
‘It started with a seed, and that seed was me. And, over time, laughter filled my garden...’
Family Tree is a sweet book written by Josh Pyke and illustrated by Ronojoy Ghosh and is a heartfelt celebration of family, community and the seasons of life to cherish and share. Family Tree looks at the beauty of life through the growth of a gum tree which spreads love and joy while depicting the ways in which communities and families around the world evolve together in unity.
What is National Simultaneous Storytime?
Held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), NSS showcases a picture book by an Australian author and illustrator and is read simultaneously to children across the country. Each year the book chosen explores age-appropriate themes and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Grade 6.
For 22 wonderful years, children have enjoyed a vibrant and fun event that not only encourages children and families to come together as a community and enjoy the wonder of stories but also promotes the value of reading and literacy for everyone of all ages.
