What is LOTE4Kids?

Would your children like to read or listen to a picture book at home in their own language other than English (LOTE)?

Or to read a book in their own language, along with an English translation?

Welcome to LOTE4Kids.  A new library resource that allows children to enjoy the magic of books in their own language!

LOTE4Kids is a new library online resource that you can access for free with your Yarra Plenty Regional Library membership.  Just click through the LOTE4Kids button and you arrive at a huge virtual bookshelf with books in over 50 world languages.  Access is easy, with navigation available in fourteen languages and features to make looking at the website easier.

Read picture books in your own language, or listen to them being read, with the words highlighted as they are said.  You can also watch each title translated and narrated in English.  Some books are bilingual with your language and English text together.

LOTE4kids can also be used to learn a new language and develop your multilingual reading and learning skills.  You can adjust the speed of the book and the narration to match your reading and listening level.

There is also a selection of English-only books read with Australian, US, and UK accents.

As well as books, there are fun activities like colouring pages, spot the difference puzzles, word searches, and memory matching games.

Look out for the LOTE4kids app, coming in 2023.

Our Yarra Plenty Regional Library collection also contains books, DVDs, and magazines in 17 community languages.  All items can be placed on hold with our Click & Collect service to be picked up from your selected branch.
