This October YPRL is increasing awareness of local history in our Region.  It is time to investigate, explore and discover the history of where you live, work and play during our annual Local History Month program.  

The Plenty River is Melbourne’s third river. Join members of the Greensborough Historical Society to celebrate their new publication: Walking the Kurrum Yallock (Plenty River): History, heritage, and environment by Anne Paul  which will be launched by Kate Thwaites MP at Diamond Valley Library, Thursday 5 October 10.30am—12.30pm

We will follow this event with a Community Walk along the River at Lower Plenty on Thursday 26 October, 10.30am —12.30pm.

Guest speakers in the program include:

Adam Dinech who will speak about the history of urban development in Macleod at Watsonia Library  on Thursday 5 October 6.30pm—7.30pm.

Tony Williams who will speak about the Eltham Music and Social Scene of the 1970s at Eltham Library on Sunday 15 October 2.00pm—3.00pm.

A panel of speakers from Melbourne Water and Friends of Toorourrong Reservoir will discuss the History of the Yan Yean Reservoir and how it revolutionised Melbourne’s water supply in 1857. Whittlesea Library Tuesday 17 October, 11.00am—12.30pm.

A Poppy Making Workshop to dedicate to a local Anzac will take place at Thomastown Library, 27 October, 11.00am—12.00pm.
