Internet Hotspots for Loan

THIS BLOG IS ABOUT AN OLD PROGRAM AND THE INFORMATION IT CONTAINS IS NO LONGER ACCURATE.

Do you or your family have problems with accessing the internet from home?

Yarra Plenty Regional Library is offering free Wi-Fi Hotspots to families or students who have inadequate internet access in their home. Each Hotspot provides a monthly allowance of data that can be used for educational purposes or to access the library’s online resources.

How does it work?

A Hotspot is like a small, portable modem. It broadcasts a Wi-Fi signal in your home, which you can use to connect to the internet through your computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. Several devices can connect at the same time. Just like a mobile phone plan, the Hotspot has a limited amount of data per month.

Each Hotspot is loaned for up to 12 months, and like our other library services the Hotspot is completely free.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for a Hotspot:

  • you must be a resident of the City of Whittlesea.

  • you must have no internet at home, or inadequate internet—for example, too slow or not enough data.

  • you or one of your dependents/children must be studying in primary school, high school or higher education.

This is a pilot program with a limited number of Hotspots available. If you would like to apply for a Hotspot, please contact Whittlesea Community Connections on 9401 6666 or email admin@whittleseacc.org.au.

*(EDIT 2025: Please NOTE: YPRL does still have Hotspots available to borrow. It is now open to all YPRL members but they are kept at Lalor and Thomastown branches, contact the branch for more information or place a reservation online.
