International Women’s Day celebrates the achievements of women and is a call to action for the equity of women. On Wednesday 8 March,  Yarra Plenty Regional Libraries will shine a spotlight on the achievements of some incredible women in our community and beyond. We will also highlight this year's theme 'Cracking the Code: Innovation for a gender equal future' with events focused on the incredible achievements of women in STEM. Be inspired, borrow books on women in STEM and get involved in this fantastic program of free events. Make sure you book today to avoid disappointment.

Enjoy Live music in the garden at Mill Park Library as talented cellist and vocalist Adi performs a mix of classical, jazz and world music. Then stay at the library for a timely and essential presentation on managing your budgeting and finances, hosted by Anouk, a Financial Counsellor from Uniting.  

Inspiring guest speaker Ginette Beguely from Whittlesea Community Connections will visit Lalor Library to talk about her integral role in running Whittlesea’s Community Help Clinics. Then enjoy a screening of the critically acclaimed film Hidden Figures, which tells the previously untold story of the women of NASA who shaped the Space Program. 

Diamond Valley Library will honour the feminine with a meditation session, hosted by Nicole from Soulful Being. Treat yourself to this session of mindfulness and relaxation as Nicole shows us how we all have the power the create a beautiful life.  

Drop into Thomastown’s Textile Maker Space and start up a craftivism cross stitch. We will have all the materials and a variety of patterns for you to choose from! 

In the evening, come along to an entertaining evening of mocktails and comedy at Whittlesea Library. Enjoy the comedy of Melbourne comedian Justine Sless and be wowed by the delicious mocktail creations served up by the Whittlesea Country Women’s Association.  

Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub will host an afternoon of international films by, for and about women in the theatrette. The program of films will be made available a week prior to the event.  

Eltham Library’s annual Women Write History will be held on Saturday 18th of March. Perfect for fans of historical fiction, book lovers and writers alike, this all-day event will focus on the five elements of story, with workshops, discussions and lively chats on the art of writing and telling stories!

Hear the remarkable story of Farzaneh Djalalian, who was a political prisoner in Iran.  Her resistance, survival and new life in Australia are all documented in her book Incarceration: My five years as a political prisoner in Iran. Farzeneh will be a guest speaker at Watsonia and Eltham libraries.
