Kristy Thomas
Kristy is full of great ideas, and she’s determined that the Baby-sitters Club will be just her first—and not her only—successful business. She’s taking the lessons of entrepreneurship seriously and is turning to Richard Turner’s The Essential Entrepreneur as taking on lessons contained in Carolyn Dailey’s The Creative Entrepreneur. It’s a big world out there, and someone has to run it. Kristy is sure she is destined to be president of more than just this one club. She recommends Rebel Girls Awesome Entrepreneurs: 25 Tales of Women Building Businesses for young girls who, like her, had big ideas early in life.
Mary Anne Spier
Mary Anne Spier loves her cat Tigger as much as she loves her friends and her dad. She thinks Tigger must be the best cat in the world, but she also likes to read about other cats—she's got Atlas of Cats coming in so she can explore all the different cat breeds and stories it contains! And she can’t wait to read Karma is a Cat: she knows Taylor Swift’s cats have amazing lives, and she occasionally wonder if Tigger might want to live the life of a more glamorous cat. (Not really. She knows Tigger loves her best.) She also loves knitting. (Tigger likes it when she knits as well!) She’s been finding new patterns in Easy Knitting for Kids so she can make things for everyone she knows.
Claudia Kishi
Claudia Kishi loves to connect with her heritage and with her art through graphic novels and manga. Of course, she’s kept up with One Piece and titles like Komi Can’t Communicate. (For younger readers who want to start with manga, she likes to add copies of Splatoon to the kid-kits!) Lately she’s been branching out to other graphic novels that tell stories from history, particularly the history that her grandmother Mimi lived through. Both Pearl by Sherri L Smith and We Are Not Strangers by Joseph Tuininga touch on the stories of Japanese Americans during World War II, and Tuininga’s book opens up the plight of other groups who suffer persecution in wartime. These stories broaden Claudia’s ideas about what her art could be.

Stacey McGill
Money matters are serious to Stacey: keeping track of the money is not just her job as Treasurer, but it is one of her passions. (What can she say? She’s a girl who likes maths, and her careful personal accounting mean she has spare cash when she sees a cute pair of high-top sneakers.) She’s fascinated to see how other people spend and so has been reading Victoria Devine’s Money Diaries with She’s On the Money: The Power in Rewriting your Money Story. She’s also very aware of the gender gap when it comes to wages and been thinking about Roxanne Calder’s Earning Power: Breaking Barriers and Building Wealth for Women . Stacey recommends that kids learn about their finances early, and thinks A Kids Book about Money is a good place to start.
Dawn Schafer
Dawn Schafer is always ready to learn more about nutrition. Superfoods? She eats them every day. Dessert? She’d prefer an apple, thanks. Okay, she might take some raw honey and yoghurt topped with berries. She’s been studying up on the The Complete Cookbook for Teen Chefs (she’s far better at following a recipe than her mother) and she’s very excited to try out A World of Flavour: a celebration of food and recipes from around the globe but her favourite cookbook is Kids can cook vegetarian she just loves learning new things to do with vegetables!
Jessi Ramsay
Jessi Ramsay lives for dance—mostly. (She also loves friends, babysitting, horses and telling jokes!) She dreams of being a prima ballerina and is well on her way! She likes to read stories about other people with big dreams—her favourite is Anna Pavlova but she thinks the stories of non-dancers are almost as good. People like Beyoncé, Ella Fitzgerald and Mae Jemison are all so inspiring too!
Logan Bruno
Logan Bruno is a laid-back guy. He likes to sleep in and he doesn’t like to stress out. He’ll take pepperoni on his pizza (no onions, thanks). He likes sport—to watch it and to play it—but he’s not what you’d call a jock. He does like to pick up books on all kinds of sports though. Like Drive to Victory: Incredible true stories from the Fastest Sport in the World and he’s got his name down to read Lionel Messi. He thinks The Story Behind Stunts looks really awesome too! Plus, he always likes checking in on the latest edition of The Guiness Book of World Records: it’s amazing the stuff people think of doing!
Shannon Kilbourne
Shannon Kilbourne wishes she could be more than an associate member of the BSC, but she knows just how busy she is—and that’s without trying to ace her French exams. Even if she doesn’t get to attend meetings very often she does like to share what she’s been reading with Kristy and the girls sometimes. She would never dream of spaghettifying her own beloved dog, but she is very glad to read How to spaghettify your dog: and other science secrets of the universe: because she just loves to learn more about astronomy. She’s seen that there’s a new book on The Solar System available too, and has placed it on hold.
Abby Stevenson
Abby’s got a big personality and likes it when things are a bit dramatic. Or at least when someone bothers to make them funny. She thinks How to avoid being eaten by sharks... and other advice is the best book of advice anyone could ever publish.
