Thomastown Library is excited to announce the launch of free Arabic language computer classes, starting Tuesday, February 25th. These classes will run every Tuesday for six weeks and are designed to cover the basics of using a computer, the internet, email, and more. The beginner course will be presented entirely in Arabic, making it accessible for Arabic-speaking community members.
Participants can join the entire course or attend specific sessions to improve particular skills. With nearly 92,000 Victorians speaking Arabic at home, and approximately 10% of Thomastown's community being Arabic speakers, these classes aim to bridge the digital divide and enhance access to vital government, employment, and health services increasingly delivered online.
"Learning about computers and software can be challenging, especially if you’re new to them. Learning in a second language adds another layer of difficulty. Without computer skills, it is easy to be left behind and miss out on important information, services, and connection to a broader world. That's why we're supporting our Arabic speaking community by making learning these skills as easy as possible," said Jane Cowell, CEO Yarra Plenty Regional Library.
Classes will be held at Thomastown Library and all materials will be provided. For more information or to register, contact Thomastown library on 9464 1864. Thomastown library is located within the Thomastown Library and Community Centre, 52 Main St. Thomastown.
