It’s Library and Information Week 2023. A week where we celebrate libraries and information workers around Australia! 

This year we are going back to basics.

Join us as we bring to you, programs and events, showcasing our wonderful libraries.

How to Suggest a Purchase:

Did you know that if the library doesn't have the book or DVD you want, you can ask us to buy it? It's true! Come and learn how to suggest an item for purchase. Library staff member Slavka will take you through all the steps to request the items you would like to see on our shelves.

Book Chat:

Do you love to read? Come and chat about books you've enjoyed, what you like to read, and what you are reading now. No need to read a specific book. Coffee, tea and biscuits will be provided!

Library Window Gallery:

Contribute to our Library Week window gallery by drawing or writing about your love of knowledge, books and libraries. Look out for the unusual facts and stories about libraries, and add your own!
During this special Library Week celebration we will share morning tea while we explore the messages we have received so far.  You will be able to add your own message during the event. Morning tea provided.

Family History Research Discussion:

Join us for a chat about researching family history online. We'll discuss tips and strategies for searching Ancestry Online and other databases, and how the accuracy of records can vary.

The session will include advice from Elaine, our Family History Research volunteer and participants will be encouraged to share their own experiences.

Become a pro at navigating our movie streaming, eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, eResources and more!

Streaming Movies, Tuesday 1 August at Mill Park Library, 2pm–3pm.

Discover how you can stream free movies and shows through our eLibrary. All you need is your library card!

Introduction to eResources, Tuesday 1 August at Lalor Library, 4.30pm–5.30pm. 

Learn about all the wonderful eResources the library has to offer, including digital eBooks, free video streaming and much more. Library staff member Nadia will introduce you to these resources and walk you through how to use them.

eBooks and More, Wednesday 2 August at Ivanhoe Library, 10.30am–11.30am.

This session will show you how to download free content from the library's eResources, including Libby and BorrowBox (eBooks) and Kanopy (movies and TV). Please bring in your own tablet or smart phone. Once you are set up, you can download and enjoy from the comfort of your home or in the library.

Your library membership is a gateway to our free eLibrary. Discover eResources such as: family history research, historical newspapers, eBooks and eMagazines, online training, learning languages and much more.

Introduction to eLibrary, Friday 4 August at Diamond Valley Library, 9.30am–11.00am.

Bring your smartphone or tablet and learn how to download eBooks, eAudiobooks & eMagazines using the Libby App.

YPRL Library App Workshops:

 

Intro to the Library App, Wednesday 2 August at Eltham Library, 10.00am–11.00am.

Learn how to use our library app to manage your loans, explore eResources, and find out what events are running at your local branch. Learn how to make the most of your free membership. Please bring your phone or tablet if possible.  

Using the YPRL App, Thursday 3 August at Lalor Library, 10.30am–11.30am.

Bring along your device to learn how to navigate the YPRL App. Learn about all the different features, from borrowing your books to events and resources, with library staff member Aviva.
