Week Without Violence

YPRL Staff

18 October, 2021

The Week Without Violence (WWV) is a global campaign to end violence against women.

Since 1999, the northern metropolitan region has had a proud history of participation in the WWV, primarily through the Clothesline Project, which focuses on raising awareness about family violence. This year’s key message is: ‘Connect, Listen, Believe: Contribute to healthy, happy families in our communities’.

The Clothesline Project’s concept is simple: each participant expresses their feelings about family violence, using words or drawings on a T-shirt. YPRL have T-Shirt displays at selected library locations and a paper T-shirt template is available for collection or to download. Find out more about what participants can write, draw or paint on their T-shirt.

This week, YPRL also have a themed Storytime session focussing on a book that encourages everyone to respect, embrace, and love who we are, inside and out. It will be published on YPRL’s Facebook page on Saturday, October 23rd at 10am.

We have also put together a list of books that explore our bodies, emotions, and respectful relationships for kids.

A book that encourages everyone to respect, embrace, and love who we are, inside and out. Taryn Brumfitt is the fiercely passionate thought leader behind the Body Image Movement and director of Embrace the documentary. She is determined to inspire everyBODY to celebrate their body, regardless of size, colour, ethnicity, gender or ability.
