National Science Week

YPRL Staff

12 August, 2021

National Science Week runs from 14-22nd August this year. Even if you’re staying home, there are heaps of fun things to do to take part!

The library is running some special National Science Week events online, including Paper Hovercrafts and Scratch Coding. There will also be SciVR headsets available from Click and Collect areas at library branches - pick one up and dive into virtual reality at home!

Check out the National Science Week website for some DIY science inspiration. Will you explore boozy bubbles, colour change cocktails, or meandering maths?

Are you part of our online Science Club on Facebook? There are heaps of activities to join in, from building your own kaleidoscope or exploring static electricity to learning about Mars exploration from an astronaut!

Go to a museum – from home! Did you know that Museums Victoria have a great online program? You can do tours, activities, and puzzles at Scienceworks, Melbourne Museum, and the Immigration Museum. Make sure you check out the dinosaurs!

Become a citizen scientist and get involved in the Birds in Backyards program! Birds in Backyards is a research, education, and conservation program from BirdLife Australia, and it focuses on the birds that live where people live. Find out what birds are living near you, and learn how you can create bird-friendly spaces in your garden.

National Science Week is all about celebrating science in all shapes and forms. Science is all around us! What will you do?
