All new child members (ages 0-12) can now choose one of six new limited-edition library membership cards designed by local artists.
We proudly support local artists and would love to introduce them to you and also show you some of the books they have illustrated (and they wrote some too!) Aren't they talented?!
Emma Sjaan Beukers
Emma Sjaan Beukers is a designer, illustrator and artist working from her home studio in Naarm (Melbourne).
Her blend of Indigenous (Ngemba/Ngiyampaa), Dutch and Irish heritage, as well as her own spiritual and occult practices, heavily inspire the art and illustration work she creates; full of nostalgic and familiar nature, magic, mystery, and folklore.
Annabelle Hale
Annabelle Hale, former Artist in Residence at Eltham Library, is a local children's author and illustrator who loves to draw, dance, and spend time outdoors in nature.
Annabelle creates her work both digitally and through traditional media such as watercolour and colour pencils.
She loves bright colours and creating fun characters and stories that everyone can enjoy.
Marc McBride
Marc McBride is the illustrator of Emily Rodda's Deltora Quest series, which has sold over 18 million copies worldwide and has become an anime TV show.
He has illustrated more than 200 book covers and 10 picture books. Marc has been shortlisted for the CBCA Awards and Aurealis Awards and has won the Aurealis Awards twice.
The image on the library card is from his exhibition The Boy who Drew Dragons.
Judith Rossell
Judith Rossell has been an illustrator and writer of children’s books for more than 20 years.
Judith has written 16 books and has illustrated more than 80. Judith’s books have been published in the UK, the USA and have been translated into more than 20 languages.
The image featured on the new library card is Stella in the Library from her book Wormwood Mire which is part of the Stella Montgomery series.
Annie White
Annie White has illustrated over 90 books for children. Some of her picture books have appeared on the CBCA Notables list, the Speech Pathology short list and the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards short list.
Annie is particularly interested in children’s literature where she likes to communicate ideas clearly and simply using expression and movement.
Jodi Wiley
Jodi Wiley is a Melbourne artist interested in the themes of nostalgia, memory, place, and the way we make meaning from personal narratives.
She works primarily in acrylic and watercolour. Jodi has been a past winner of the Darebin Art Prize and was awarded Highly Commended in the 2015 Nillumbik Art Prize.
In 2024, she created a zine to celebrate 70 Years of the YPRL Mobile Library service and drew this image of our beloved mobile vehicle.
