Library Lovers' Week 2022

YPRL Staff

8 February, 2022

Here at YPRL, we will be celebrating Library Lovers' Day for a full week!

From Monday 14 February to Sunday 20 February, we'd like you to celebrate Library Lovers' Week with us.

ALIA’s theme for 2022 is ‘Share the Love’, so we'd like to share some socially-distanced love with our community.

This year we are celebrating the romance novel.

Romance is a hugely popular genre and has had a resurgence during the pandemic, with predictable happily-ever-afters offering an escape from and an antidote to the world around us. The genre has also recently captured mainstream readers and viewers, due to the success of Bridgerton on Netflix and the promise of more adaptations in the works.

However, there still seems to be a stigma around reading romance — a genre traditionally (although not at all exclusively, especially these days) read by women. Have you ever apologised to a librarian for only checking out “trash”? Or seen anyone reading books wrapped in paper covers on the train? That’s why romance ebooks are so popular!

YPRL is here to support all readers, so let's celebrate our romance novels this year!

Branch displays

Visit your local branch and peruse our romance displays! And while you're there, take a peek at our shelves: find an old favourite to revisit, or discover something new.

Blind Date with a Book

A Blind Date with a Book service will be available at some of our branches.

Wrapped in plain paper, with a cryptic clue on the front, you won't know which book you're taking home with you — which is all part of the fun!

YPRL Blog

Keep an eye on our blog during Library Lovers' Week for some staff picks, romance booklists, and ebook suggestions.

Valentines Book Valet

If you’re looking for some book recommendations, then leave it to us! Fill out our book valet survey online, and one of our book valet team members will send you a personalised reading list, based on your interests.
