2020 was a year of diversity and creativity within Yarra Plenty’s Booklovers Festival. We interviewed a selection of local Australian authors about what the theme of creative resilience meant to them, and how is it reflected in their writing.
Here are some highlights from the festival:
Tim Cope
Tim is an Australian adventurer, author and filmmaker. He has written two books which document his exploration and journeys: Off the Rails: Moscow to Beijing by Bike (2003) and On the Trail of Genghis Khan: An Epic Journey Through the Land of the Nomads (2013).
Carly Findlay
Carly is a writer, public speaker and appearance activist. She has featured on ABC’s You Can’t Ask That and Cyberhate with Tara Moss, and has been a regular on various ABC radio programs. Carly discusses her first book, Say Hello, a memoir, her work with editing Growing Up Disabled in Australia and what resilience means to her.
Zana Fraillon
Zana is an award-winning youth writer. In this video, Zana helps step you through the process of developing writing for young adults via a series of activities and writing prompts.
Vikki Conley
Vicky is a local writer, content creator and intrepid explorer. Her children’s books weave a world of colour, magic, nature and play. Vicky discusses how to inbuild resilience into everyday practices while juggling a family.
Karen Andrew
Karen is an award-winning author, poet and publisher whose articles have featured in journals around Australia. In her book, Trust the Process: 101 tips on Writing and Creativity , she shares tips and tricks for crafting your writing skills. Join her in a discussion on developing creative resilience.
