Does your classroom have rich collection of books?

Research has shown that creating a comprehensive classroom library can have a positive effect on student achievement. When students are able to access a range of reading material they will read more, develop positive attitudes towards reading and read for a variety of different purposes.

It is important to have a rich collection of books and reading material within your classroom libraries, including different genres, non-fiction, biographies, graphic novels and picture books. Including more than one copy of popular titles can be effective in encouraging students to enjoy reading together.

The following are some ideas for how you could use YPRL to help stock your classroom library, but remember, the options are endless!

Author Studies:

An author study is like getting to know a writer really well! You read several of their books, learn about their life, notice how they write, find similarities and differences as well as talk about what makes their stories special.

Encourage Independent Learning while working on science units:

Stock up your classroom library with books that support your learning topics and concepts. We have a huge collection of Junior Non-Fiction that your students will love!
