Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June) is an opportunity for all of us to acknowledge the enduring cultures and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and work together to ‘Be Brave and Make a Change’ and tackle the unfinished business of Reconciliation.
Reconciliation Week occurs at the same time each year, with the two dates commemorating the 1967 Referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.
The theme ‘Be brave, make a change’ encourages all of us, individuals, families, communities, organisations, and government to explore how each of us can contribute to Reconciliation.
Come along to:
- a walk in Gresswell forest with Aboriginal Elder Trevor Gallagher to learn about the Aboriginal cultural interactions with plants and hunting techniques
- an interactive VR experience
- special storytime sessions at Diamond Valley and Thomastown embedded in Aboriginal Culture
- The library is also hosting a fundraiser book sale at Eltham Library to support the Aboriginal Literacy Foundation, so please support them if you can.
We are also excited to showcase an article from Aboriginal Journalist Charles Pakana, who offers his experiences and insights into Reconciliation. This will be available later in the week.
