YPRL is here to help with all your bookish New Year’s Resolutions!
One of the most common new year’s goals in Australia is to ‘read more books!’
Here are 5 free and easy ways our library can help to make that happen…!
1. Prioritise borrowing over buying…
Be sure to check our Library Catalogue before rushing out to buy a book! We have so many new titles available from our Book Express collection. If one of your goals this year involves spending less and saving more, your YPRL library card is a great way to do this.
Also, with access to apps like Libby and Borrowbox to borrow ebooks, audiobooks and magazines the only card you’ll have to pull out of your wallet is your library card!
2. Try multitasking with Audiobooks...
Remember any format counts. Reading doesn’t just have to happen at night before sleep, or when you finally get some time on the beach during a holiday. YPRL has a large range of audiobooks you could be listening to while doing almost anything!
Fill your drive to work every morning with an audiobook instead of breakfast radio, or even listen to a great title while you are cooking dinner.
3. Read the book and then see the movie…
4. Try something new…
Shake things up! If you feel like you are stuck in a reading rut, take the chance on something completely different.
Only read fiction? Try a non-fiction title… Our friendly staff are great at making recommendations. Come for a visit to the library and we would be more than happy to help recommend something that might pull you out of your reading rut!
5. READ to learn a new skill...
Is there something you have always thought about doing?
Starting your veggie patch? Maybe taking a road trip around Australia or painting with watercolours?
Check out our catalogue for a great non-fiction text to help you get started and inspired.
Did you know YPRL also has access to online learning resources such as Craftsy, where you can learn new crafts at your own pace with easy-to-follow video classes on everything from photography and painting to quilting and cake decoration.
Also don’t forget you could always start your family history journey with Ancestry Library Edition. Visit your local branch and have access to billions of historical records to trace family history and preserve family heritage.
Remember any type of reading counts, and reading to learn a new skill could help you to achieve another one of your 2024 goals!
Remember it is never too late to prioritise more reading into your routine! Reading has been proven to improve focus, reduce stress and improve your mental health.
