The Yarra Plenty Regional Library’s annual Write Now! Short Story Competition is closing soon so don't miss out! This year we’re trying something slightly different: Entries for the OPEN category are to be based around the theme of Home. Think home, homecomings, belonging, departing or the idea of local. Use the idea of Home to kickstart your original story.
Entries open 1 July 2016 and close 6 September 2016 by 5.00pm
Whether you’re 6 years old or 100, we would love to see your story. Entries are now open across three categories:
- Junior (6 – 11 years) First prize: $50.00; Second: $25.00
- Young Adult (12 – 17 years) First prize: $70.00; Second: $40.00
- Open (over 18) First prize: $120; Second: $70.00
All winning and commended stories will be published in an anthology.
This year’s judge is Melbourne writer Lyndel Caffrey. Lyndel’s poetry, life writing, short stories and historical fiction have been published widely with ‘Glad’, her novella of 1920s Melbourne featuring in Griffith Review. Shortlisted for the 2015 The Richell Prize for Emerging Writers, Lyndel teaches creative writing and works as a mentor and assessor with Writers Victoria.
