The Boy Who Drew Dragons

The Boy Who Drew Dragons explored the transformation of Marc McBride’s creative practice – from traditional painting and airbrush to digital art – through exhibition of selected drafted, development and finished artworks.
The exhibition also included adaptations of Marc’s work including books, models, jigsaw puzzles and educational items, offering an insight into Marc’s fantasy illustration techniques while encouraging audience participation.
The Boy Who Drew Dragons was launched by YPRL Manage Public Participation Lisa Dempster and officially opened by artist and recent Australian Children’s Laureate Leigh Hobbs on Saturday 16 December 2017 at 2.00pm. Speakers included YPRL Board Member and Nillumbik Deputy Mayor Cr Karen Egan, and attendees included Manager Collections Anita Catoggio, Yarra Plenty Regional Library staff, artists, writers, illustrators and community members.
Marc McBride is an internationally featured illustrator, best known for his work on the Deltora Quest series written by Emily Rodda. He has illustrated over fifty book covers and countless magazines, as well as producing artwork for advertising campaigns. Marc has a solid design background in both advertising and film, and won the West Australian Film and Television Award for Best Art Director for short film Edge of Reality. He has also exhibited with the New York Society of Illustrators and won Aurealis Awards for the Deltora Quest series and World of Monsters.
Marc is currently working on the covers for a new Deltora series and trying to meet the deadline for his new graphic novel, The Boy Who Drew Dragons (working title).
