The Yarra Plenty Regional Library annual Summer Reading Club ran through December 2015 – January 2016 encouraging kids to read over the school holidays. For every 10 books read and recorded each child between the ages of 3-12 received a fun trading card and went into the draw to win great prizes.
This fun, family-orientated program contains lots of interactive shows and activities within the theme Fizz, Boom, Read to engage children in a variety of play-based literacy and education.
This year an astounding 3,336 children registered and 28,478 books were read. There were 27 branch winners in total and one overall major prize winner.
Yesterday the regional winner, four year old Abyan Kamnani, was presented with his iPad mini by Chairperson of the YPRL board Cr Ken King at Mill Park Library. Abyan clung tightly to his prize as his parents proudly spoke of how the family are regular library patrons and how Abyan’s enthusiasm for books is preparing him for school in 2017.
