Food For Fines

16 November – 17 December 2018

Yarra Plenty Regional Library wants you to get back to borrowing.

Is something stopping you? Do you have overdue fines? Maybe you still have an item at home that you need to return, but it has been a really long time? It’s time to wipe the slate clean.

Most needed items:

  • Canned fruit, vegetables, fish, soups and meals
  • Dried fruit and nuts
  • Sauces and seasonings
  • UHT milk and juices
  • Coffee, tea and spreads
  • Rice, pasta and noodles
  • Cereals
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Soap and deodorant
  • Dental floss, toothpaste and toothbrushes
  • Tissues and toilet paper
  • Feminine hygiene products

We cannot accept items that are:

  • Out of date/expired
  • Opened or damaged items
  • Missing a full ingredients list and allergen information on the pack
  • Not on the list above

Let’s help our local community with food and items that are desperately needed – especially in this time before Christmas. Donate food items from 16 November to 17 December 2018 and we will give your library card a fresh start.

  • Return that item that’s still sitting in your home and no fines will apply – even if it has been years!
  • Donate food items using our guidelines and fines will be removed from your library card.

Lost a book but want to start borrowing again? We want you back, speak to one of our friendly library staff.

What happens to the donations?

We are partnering with Foodbank Victoria who will distribute the donated food and personal items to people in need.

Foodbank Victoria is an independent not-for-profit organisation with almost 90 years’ of food relief experience. Each month, Foodbank Victoria sources and distributes food to over 100,000 Victorians who rely on its food assistance – more than a quarter of whom are children.

42% of Foodbank Victoria's resources are distributed within northern Melbourne.
