Ekphrasis 2018

Exhibition: Nillumbik Ekphrasis Poetry Award 2018

Ekphrasis (Ek-fra-sis) is a genre of poetry that explores works of art and seeks to ‘get inside’ its visual subject. Nillumbik Ekphrasis Poetry Award is a celebration of the Nillumbik Art Collection and the Literary Arts.

The 2018 Nillumbik Ekphrasis Poetry Award invites Australian poets to respond with 12-line poems to artworks from the commemorative Baldessin Press folio Baldessin & Friends, recently acquired for the Nillumbik Shire Art Collection.

The folio brings together seven celebrated Australian artists - Rick Amor, GW Bot, Jock Clutterbuck, Michael Leunig, Jan Senbergs, Imants Tillers and John Wolseley – all of whom share a personal connection to Baldessin, or to the Press itself. Each artist generously created a new work specifically for the folio, continuing the legacy of the renowned printmaker and sculptor George Baldessin (1939 – 1978).

Exhibition: Baldessin & Friends works will be exhibited at Diamond Valley Library from Thursday 1 March to Monday 30 April.

Event: A discussion on poetry, printmaking and the creative process will be hosted by Tess Edwards of Baldessin Press and featured Baldessin & Friends folio artists on Saturday 3 March at 2.00pm.
