Over at Watsonia Library, Jacinda’s favourite recommendations are The List by Patricia Forde and The Witching Hour series.
Liz has a very special place in her heart for the classic We’re Going On A Bear Hunt. Liz remembers reading it at bedtime to a new born baby with a five and three year old all cuddled up… Good times!
The Diamond Valley Library staff have a treasure trove of wonders and many fond memories including:
Sarah, who loves Possum Magic by Mem Fox. Sarah remembers being read this book by her big cousin when she was around 6 years old
Mark says Meg and Mog by Helen Nicoll & Jan Pienkowski is the first book he remembers enjoying, especially as it had the word “catastrophe” which was a new word he had never heard before he was 4 years old.
For Tracey, Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s dairy by Lynley Dodd is a special memory from childhood that has been passed down to her own children and everyone loves Hairy Maclary!
The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton is beloved by Jackie, who discovered the magical world of the faraway tree folk, which ignited her love of reading when she was 8 years old.
If laughter is for you then Teresa has you covered because My Unicorn Farts Glitter by Suzanne Barton is her recommendation because Teresa judges a book by its cover! (check out the cover!) and also loves Unicorns and wishes they were real!
Guess how much I love you by Sam McBratney are very special books Dione loved reading to her 2 special boys (sons) as well as all of Pamela Allen’s books.
To wrap up this beautiful list, Nell has some delightful offerings and says, ‘ I love being a librarian because I love stories and how they can reflect, enhance, and illuminate the human condition. Life is just so much better and brighter with books.’ And with that, some of Nell’s highly recommended reads include All the Factors of Why I Love Tractors by Davina Bell and Magic Beach by Alison Lester.
