The Secret Life of Withdrawn Books

YPRL Staff

8 August, 2022

Have you ever wondered what happens to our books once they are retired from our collection? We offer our members current, topical and engaging materials to borrow, and this means that our physical library book collection constantly changes.

So, we often have items we need to withdraw from our collection. There are lots of reasons for this, some may be because the item has been so well-loved it is now damaged and worn, or that the information has become a little out of date, or maybe the item wasn’t popular within our community or perhaps it was very popular for a time so be bought more copies and we now have lots of duplicates.

YPRL are proud to maintain a collection that responds to our community needs and is in good condition and we always have sustainability as one of our highest priorities.

This September, we will be hosting a Spring Book Sale for some of our withdrawn items that are still in good condition. We love the idea of our books going on to have another life for their post library retirement. Prices will start at $1 and there will be loads of bargains in all genres!

The money we raise from the sales will go into sustainable measures of disposing of our damaged stocks through The Sustainability Project, which supports the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

We love the idea of our books going on to have another life for their post library retirement.
