What’s Happening @ Fun Palaces 2019?

It's here!  This Saturday October 5, we are opening our Library doors again to celebrate the unique skills of people just like you!

At this years Fun Palaces we will be offering you craft,technology, heritage, sports, and science experiences - led by the community, for all ages.  Each of our branches taking on a unique approach to celebrate what their local community has to offer.  

While the words Fun Palaces may make you think of jumping castles, our activities won't be quite as bouncy but is more about trying out new ideas, learning about eco-friendly groups, experiencing a new craft, and trying out new things.

Here are just a few of the fantastic events that will be happening across our branches this Saturday.  Which one catches your attention?


Thomastown Library 
- love planting vegetables and herbs?
Thomastown Library in partnership with Bunnings Thomastown
will be getting you to help them create their new garden, and you get to take a little seed home in a jiffy pot.


 

Mill Park Library - Say hello to Hamilton - YPRL's very own NAO Robot, try some family friendly yoga, check out the Makers Club award winning Robot Walking School Bus, and latest Kangaroo GPS tracking projects



Diamond Valley Library
- Ever wanted to know more about
programming and robotics? Come along to Robogals and learn
how to program in this fun LEGO Robotics workshop.
You can also learn how to code, create an app or program a
micro-computer with Melbourne Polytechnic.


Rosanna Library - Does the NBN confuse you or are you interested in Augmented Reality?
You can find out more about these as well as engage in some Mini Maestro's, learn about Japanese braining, and hear all about the Banyule Men's Shed at Rosanna's Fun Palace.



Whittlesea Library - It is all about being Eco Friendly at Whittlesea
Library for this Fun Palace.  Have a go at making a recycled CD Craft
to hang in the kids garden, visit the frogs at the community garden,
and you can also learn how to make a boomerang bag.


Eltham Library - Have you got a treasured item that needs repairing and you're not sure how to do it?
With Eltham's sustainability theme at this years Fun Palace, one of the highlighted events is the repair cafe where you can be taught how to fix your own treasure items from someone with the knowledge and skills.  You can alsoenjoy some roving refills and family activities out in the native garden.

Ivanhoe Library
-  Celebrate all that the Ivanhoe community has to offer as they share what they are passionate about in partnership with Heidelberg Historical Society, Women of West Heidelberg, Ivanhoe Code Club and Darkly Labs.  You can time travel, learn how to laser cut, see the Code Club showcase, and design, build, and perfect an Edison robot.


Watsonia Library - Be inspired while the Watsonia community come together to help you explore the beauty of space, create with crystal crafts, discover the power of engineering with Robogals, and learn some new skills with the local scouts.


Lalor Library - Join Lalor Library staff and the City of Whittlsea as you learn about the local habitats of creek dwelling frogs and create a diorama with the Friends of Merri Creek You can also hear a range of Interesting sounds and music, get some gardening ideas and discover our learning library.
