Tolkien: Fantasy never gets old

As the release of the movie Tolkien (the life story of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien) approaches (May 2019) I have been thinking about why I love the fantasy world he created in Lord of the Rings and various other works.

As a long time fan, first reading the books in the mid 70’s and every couple of years since, I can still be enchanted by the amazing language, characters and values that are as important now as they ever were. The themes of good vs evil, friendship, loyalty, love, tradition and life lessons still resonate truly.

The Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings movie trilogy and The Hobbit films were a fabulous introduction of the story to a new generation but if you like fantasy and haven’t read the books, now is a great time to be reintroduced to a world of hobbits, elves, dwalfs, Wizards, orcs and the odd troll or two.
