Before borrowing a cookbook, I first have a quick flick through it to get a 'feel' for it, and what type of cook it is written for.
Yesterday at work I saw a new book by Maggie Beer. I like her and enjoyed her tv series 'The Cook and the Chef' very much. However, I have yet to see any of her recipes that I would actually make. Her book that I came across yesterday was entitled 'Maggie's Verjuice Cookbook'. I didn't need to pick that book up to know that it wouldn't appeal to me and that I would be hard pressed to find anything in that book which I would attempt. I know she liked to add a dash of said ingredient to a lot of her recipes in the show, and I can't think of any recipes I would want to use it in. So, I left that book on the shelf.
