Reading for Social Peace

Our first event for the Marketplace of Ideas: Reading for Social Peace was jam-packed with great information about same-sex parents, the good and the bad. Well, mostly good. It seems that people are mostly very open to being inclusive with families that have same-sex parents. It's really just that people haven't had the conversations to open up about it.

The people at Hares and Hyenas bookshop are doing an excellent job of creating a store that has a comprehensive list of books on all manner of topics that deal with gender issues. We'll be talking to them in the near future about how they do it and if our own library collection is lacking.

This really has been a fantastic avenue to start the conversation about gender issue within families. At the end of the day, they are just families with the same trials and tribulations as any family.
