Hankerin’ after times when App meant Appaloosa?

Need some entertainment before you roll out your bedroll at the bunkhouse?

Apart from western novels YPRL’s collection includes many classic movie westerns in DVD format that can while away the hours away before bedtime.

In fact we have most of the titles on The American Film Institute top 10 westerns list. The only exception is Cat Ballou and that will soon be rectified.

If you think you would like to watch your way through these films why not get started with #1 - The searchers starring John Wayne and Natalie Wood and directed by John Ford.

“Soon after the end of the American Civil War, Ethan Edwards, an unrepentant Confederate officer, finds a mission in the ten year search for his two nieces who were kidnapped by Indians. The search ranges across the American landscape, physical, emotional and mythical in this epic Western. Ford shows the frontier myth in a sober and disenchanted light.”

And then work your way through the rest....

If you want to read a bit more about the western film here are a couple of articles that might be of interest The Evolution of the Western Genre in Filmslate Magazine and How the Western Was Lost (and Why It Matters) in The Atlantic.
