Coded Books For Struggling Readers

Not every child finds reading easy. The thought of opening a book and getting to the end can be overwhelming. Imagine the frustration of every page feeling like a sea of words with nothing on the page to break them up.

At YPRL, we want to make reading more accessible to readers of all levels. We now have a collection of coded books – these are designed for struggling readers, those reluctant to pick up a book, readers who have visual distress or children who live with dyslexia.

Our new coded books can help children build their confidence through accessing engaging stories that are designed to make reading easier by using dyslexic friendly fonts, with spacing and layout designed so the pages aren’t overcrowded.

These books are held at Watsonia Library where you can visit and browse the collection, or place a hold to be sent to your nearest branch.

Here are just a few of our new collection:

Pat

The Fang Gang

The Pet Gig

Miss Fusspot's Night

Did you know that we also have other dyslexic friendly books that are not part of the coded collection? These are for a variety of ages and abilities, all aimed to make reading easier for struggling readers.

The Truth of Things

Boing Boing

Queen of Slaves

We Are Not Frogs!
