Add the Library to Your Christmas To Do List

In the hustle and bustle of Christmas you don’t often think of the Library as being one of those places to check off your list. At YPRL, we can help your Christmas run smoothly, and add a bit of festivity to your December.

How? You may be wondering.

Christmas Events

We have events throughout December that will help you tick off many items on your Christmas list. Your children can write letters to Santa, Christmas shopping can be completed at the Thomastown Library Christmas market, you can get Christmas tree ideas when you help some of our branches decorate their trees, you can watch demonstrations on how to make Christmas cards and gift cards, and make decorations at some of our after school activities. Check out our events for dates and times. (Psst...Don't forget we have amended Christmas opening hours.)

Choice Magazines

Is your Christmas list getting more complicated every year? Are you confused which brand to suggest to Santa?  Did you know that your library membership gives you access to Choice Magazine, and has done some of the hard work for you? The folks at Choice have compared the value, and longevity of items which means less walking around the shops trying to find the right one.

Summer Reading Club (SRC)

One of the best programs of the year starts the first week of December and goes all summer holiday long. While the children are waiting for the arrival of Santa and start saying “I’m bored”, we will keep them busy with Curious Creatures themed activities and incentives to read. The SRC encourages your children to read over the school holiday period and they will go into the draw to win one of our epic major prizes. Sign up from 1 December online or at your local branch.

Santa Visits

One of the most important items to check off your list (according to most children), is a visit to Santa. The great news is, at YPRL we are good friends with Santa and he will be coming to visit us.  Check out all our upcoming Santa visits here.

Don't forget to take some time away from the Christmas chaos for yourself and do a little relaxation. Once your to-do list is almost complete, we have this year’s best books for you borrow.

Here are some staff recommendations that have had us talking this year.

The Sisters' Song

Rain Birds

Nine Perfect Strangers

The Clockmaker's Daughter

The Lost Man

Bridge of Clay

The Tattooist of Auschwitz

Now you have checked off your library list, whatever you celebrate this December, may it be full of happiness and joy.
