IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia) celebrates over 30 years of raising awareness and fighting discrimination for LGBTQIA+ people around the world.
Get involved! Your local Library has plenty on offer to support IDAHOBIT and celebrate diversity in May.
- Rainbow Storytime! These are special storytimes about inclusion and being happy with who you are hosted at Eltham, Ivanhoe and Mill Park Libraries.
- Diamond Valley Library will host a film screening of ‘Ruthie and Connie: every room in the house’, a powerful documentary about their journey from housewives to activists for same sex equality.
- Getting to know someone is a fabulous way to learn from them and help break down barriers. Lalor Library is hosting An Evening with Tony Briffa and their story of growing up as an intersex person. Tony is active in the area of local and international intersex human rights and will discuss this and their own life experience.
- Eltham Library presents another Human Library session. Why not sit down for a chat with a drag queen or an IDAHOBIT activist and get the real human story?
- Whittlesea Library is having a celebration that includes pronoun badge making and information on support services for young people with Baseline, City of Whittlesea’s Youth Services Team.
- Thomastown Library will host artwork on their digital screens from a City of Whittlesea LGBTQIA+ support group from 17 May 2022.
