
The Yarra Plenty Reads program is a series of events which encourage engagement with reading through ongoing services and programs, including Bedside Reads, Live Reads, Screen Reads and Community Reads.

Bedside Reads is an ongoing adult informal bookchat program designed to encourage a love of reading and create opportunities for people to share reading experiences.

Live Reads incorporates all literary events that involve an author, illustrator, poet, and/or publisher talking about their body of work at a YPRL sponsored event. It is designed to create opportunities for our communities to connect with literary artists.

Screen Reads identifies programs held throughout the year where the community can join in programs that focus on books that have been made into movies. screen reads is designed to provide opportunities for the community to engage in current literature and film.

Community Reads incorporates literary groups formed by YPRL that connect the community with other people with similar interests.
Literacy collections:
We have a variety of resources to assist people improve their literacy and numeracy skills. These include “high interest, low vocabulary” titles; grammar and spelling titles in appropriate learning levels; IELTS (International English Language Testing System) kits and databases, and ESL (English as Second Language) titles. Please contact library staff for details of collections at your local branch library.
Literacy classes:
Rosanna Library is a venue for Adult Literacy classes, run by Olympic Adult Education in Heidelberg West. These are classes for long-term migrants who have been speaking English for many years but have difficulty with English reading, writing and vocabulary.
