Search billions of Australian and worldwide UK historical records to find information about your ancestors.  Ancestry's historical record collection, which is constantly growing reflects Australia’s multicultural heritage and enables users to explore their family’s family history using records such as the convict and free settler lists, electoral rolls, passenger lists, English, Welsh and Scottish censuses, birth, marriage and death records, cemetery records as well as user-contributed family trees.  Ancestry also has free forms and charts as well as online learning centre. Users can also connect with millions of other Ancestry users.  In-library use only.

Use this database to answer questions such as:
  • Who was my mother’s great-grandmother?
  • How should I proceed with my family history research?
  • Was my ancestor a convict?
  • When did my ancestor arrive in Australia?

findmypast.com.au (In-library use only)

Access to a collection of over 50 million historical records covering Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands.  The Australasia collection includes: cemetery records, death records, probate, land and court records, migration records, criminal reports, electoral rolls, directories, almanacs and government gazettes and military records.

 Use this database to answer questions such as:

  • Where did my ancestor live in New Zealand in 1853?
  • What was my ancestors occupation in rural NSW in 1898?

findmypast.co.uk (In-library use only)

The UK collection includes the complete UK census collection 1841-1911,  Births, marriages and deaths dating from the mid 1800s to 2005/2006, divorce records dating from the early 1500s, migration records, Boer War, WW1 and WW2 records and more.

 Use this database to answer the following questions:

  • Where can I find living members of my family in the UK?
  • Where can I locate information on my UK ancestors who served in the World Wars?
Search for your Irish ancestors in one of the world's most comprehensive collections of Irish family history records. These include over 3.5 million crime and legal records, almost 2 million names in directories and almanacs, one million BMD records, exclusive land and estate records, as well as census substitutes, travel and migration records, and the names and details of the Irish who fought in wars and rebellion.
 Use this database to answer questions such as:
  • Did my Irish family relative serve in World War One?
  • Were my Irish ancestors listed in the Griffiths Valuations land records?

Documents Online - UK National Archives

Official public archives of the UK government containing over 1000 years of history with over 2.3 million downloaded records. It includes digital images of wills (probate records), Army, Navy and Air Force records, Cabinet Records, pictures, photographs and historical documents from the Public Record Office and more.

Use this database to answer questions such as:

  • Where can I view the World War 2 service record of my English relative?
  • Where can I view the will of my Royal Navy seaman ancestor in 1788?

Times Digital Archives

Hailed as the world’s “newspaper of record” since 1785, “The Times” (London) is regarded as the most authoritative medium for political, legal, business and social news. More than eight million articles and advertisements from 1785 - 2006 are available for full –text searching and hit-term highlighting, researchers can quickly and successfully retrieve the full-text image of a specific article, or the entire page on which it appears, and have results appear in a single screen.  Browse by issue date, story headline, subject and other key search words.  In addition, thumbnail images allow users to weigh the importance of search results.

Use this database to answer questions such as:

  • When did my British ancestors Ship leave port for Australia?
  • What happened at the Old Bailey Trial of my convict ancestor?

British Newspapers 19th Century

British Newspapers 1800-1900, contains over 50 national and local titles with over two million pages of searchable digitise content.  It is the most comprehensive collection of national and regional newspapers of Victorian Britain available.  This full-text, fully searchable digital archive currently includes papers originating in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, providing a broad yet detailed view of British life in the 19th century.

Burney Collection Newspapers 17th - 18th Century

First gathered by Rev. Charles Burney (1757-1817), this is the largest single collection of 17th and 18th century English news available and includes more than 700 bound volumes of newspapers, pamphlets, proclamations, news pamphlets and newspapers.  It also includes English provincial, Irish and Scottish newspapers and papers from British colonies in the Americas and Asia. There are 1271 titles in the collection.

Use these databases to answer questions such as:

  • Was my ancestor reported on in local newspapers of his day?
  • What was life like in the village where and when my ancestor lived?  

Trove (Includes Digitized Australian Newspapers  1803-1954)

A search facility that explores the deep web for all manner of resources on Australia and Australians. It searches resources from its own holdings and those of other various Australian institutions, including Australian newspapers and magazines, journals, books, magazines, articles, letters, archives, maps, photos, music, sound, video and more.
